Barcelona beat Real Madrid 2-0 to clinch La Liga title with 14-point margin, extending win streak to 11. Flick's system, Yamal's rise, and Rashford's goal key.

Barcelona wrapped up the La Liga title in emphatic fashion, defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in El Clasico on Sunday. The victory extended their lead to an insurmountable 14 points, making it the first time in nearly a century that a head-to-head clash definitively decided the league champion. The win was Barcelona's 11th consecutive league victory, a run stretching back to February that showcased their relentless dominance.

This marks the second straight La Liga crown under manager Hansi Flick, who arrived in May 2024 to take over a club that had just seen Real Madrid win both the Champions League and La Liga, before adding Kylian Mbappe to their squad. Within two years, Flick has transformed Barcelona into a domestic powerhouse, winning five of six available trophies. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are left trophyless for a second consecutive season.

Flick's system has been the catalyst. He introduced discipline, raised physical intensity, and restored a direct attacking identity. Crucially, he accelerated the integration of La Masia talents, most notably Lamine Yamal. The 18-year-old has thrived under Flick, scoring 24 goals in 45 games despite a recent injury. Defenders double up on him but still struggle to contain his dribbling and creativity.

Other players have also flourished. Raphinha, despite injury interruptions, has become a more consistent threat as Flick encourages quicker decision-making in transition. Pedri remains the midfield anchor, while Robert Lewandowski, at 37, has rediscovered his sharpness with better service. Lewandowski's contract expires in June, leaving his future uncertain.

Marcus Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, has played a significant part. Though not a guaranteed starter, he has been used effectively off the bench. His stunning free-kick opened the scoring in El Clasico, perhaps his most important goal for the club. Barcelona have the option to make the move permanent for €35 million (£30m), a decision still pending.

Real Madrid's collapse was equally dramatic. Damaging draws in November against Elche, Rayo Vallecano, and Girona weakened their challenge, leading to Xabi Alonso's departure in January. Successor Alvaro Arbeloa has seen the gap widen. Dressing-room unrest and injuries compounded their woes, ultimately leaving them 14 points adrift.

Barcelona's resilience has been notable. They suffered early-season losses to Girona and Real Madrid but immediately responded with long winning streaks. Flick's willingness to rotate and trust squad players—such as Eric Garcia, who filled multiple positions seamlessly, and Gerard Martin—maintained intensity throughout the campaign.

Off the pitch, Flick showed leadership by granting defender Ronald Araujo a leave of absence in December to prioritize his mental health. He described it as a private matter and asked for respect, earning praise for his care.

Despite a disappointing exit in the Champions League quarter-finals against Atletico, Barcelona's title-winning campaign signals a bright future. With a squad built on elite young talent and a coach who has restored the club's identity, the Catalan side look set to continue their dominance.
