CSKA Moscow president Andrey Vatutin commended Monaco head coach Manuchar Markoishvili for his impressive work during a challenging EuroLeague season, highlighting his ability to prepare the team and deliver strong results despite key absences.

Andrey Vatutin, the president of CSKA Moscow, has offered high praise for Manuchar Markoishvili, the head coach of AS Monaco. In recent comments, Vatutin highlighted the Georgian coach's exceptional performance during a demanding EuroLeague campaign.

Vatutin noted that Markoishvili faced a significant challenge from the outset. The coach was tasked with preparing the team for the season while star player Vassilis Spanoulis was away with the Greek national team at EuroBasket. This required Markoishvili to take on a larger role in the early stages of team development.

The situation became even more complex when Spanoulis subsequently departed the club. Despite this major setback, Markoishvili guided Monaco to a commendable result. Vatutin pointed out that the coach's ability to maintain team performance under these circumstances was particularly noteworthy.

The CSKA president further emphasized the difficulty of Monaco's playoff run. He observed that competing in the EuroLeague playoffs with only eight available players, and without several key contributors, is an incredibly tough task. The team's resilience under Markoishvili's guidance was evident throughout their series against Olympiacos.

Vatutin also remarked on the visible respect the Monaco players showed for their coach. He observed that the attitude and effort of the players who remained available clearly demonstrated their admiration for Markoishvili's leadership and coaching philosophy.

Looking ahead to the EuroLeague Final Four in Athens, Vatutin expressed his intention to watch the tournament, though he was unsure if he could attend in person. He identified Olympiacos as a particularly strong contender, praising their depth and organized style of play.

Markoishvili, a former player for CSKA, has clearly made a strong impression on his former club's president. Vatutin's comments suggest that the coach has established himself as a rising tactical mind in European basketball through his work with Monaco this season.
