Medical experts testify in Maradona death trial that the head surgery ordered by his personal physician was not needed. Neurosurgeon says he advised against the procedure.

Two medical professionals who examined Diego Armando Maradona in the period leading up to his death have provided testimony in the ongoing trial concerning the Argentine legend's passing. Their statements center on the necessity of a head surgery performed shortly before Maradona died.

The physicians testified that the surgical procedure on Maradona's head, which was prescribed by his personal doctor Leopoldo Luque, was not medically required. This testimony forms a key part of the legal proceedings examining the circumstances surrounding the football icon's death.

Neurosurgeon Guillermo Burry, who was affiliated with the clinic where Maradona was hospitalized weeks before his death, offered specific details about his professional assessment. Burry stated that he had communicated directly with Dr. Luque regarding the patient's condition.

According to Burry's testimony, he explained to Dr. Luque that the timing was not appropriate for surgical intervention. The medical institution where Burry worked had reached a collective decision not to proceed with operating on Maradona at that time.

However, Burry later discovered that Maradona had been transferred to another facility. This transfer ultimately led to the head surgery that Burry and his colleagues had deemed unnecessary during their evaluation of the patient.

The testimony highlights a significant disagreement among medical professionals involved in Maradona's care. While Burry and another doctor believed surgery was not warranted, Dr. Luque proceeded to arrange the procedure that has become a focal point of the legal case.

This development in the trial adds to the growing scrutiny of the medical decisions made in the final weeks of Maradona's life. The proceedings continue to examine whether appropriate care was provided to one of football's greatest players.
