A coal truck crashed on BR-135 in Curvelo, trapping the driver. Firefighters rescued him with minor injuries. The driver lost control on a curve. No alcohol was involved.

A serious traffic incident unfolded on the BR-135 highway in Curvelo, Minas Gerais, on the night of Thursday, May 7th. A truck transporting a full load of charcoal lost control and overturned, coming to rest on the central median that separates the highway's lanes.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, Military Police officers discovered the vehicle in a precarious position and the driver trapped inside the mangled cab. The area was immediately secured and marked with warning signals to ensure the safety of other motorists and the rescue teams.

The operation to free the driver was carried out by the Fire Department. Using specialized equipment, the crews worked to extricate him from the wreckage. Following the successful rescue, it was confirmed that the driver had sustained only minor injuries in the accident.

According to the driver's own account to the police at the scene, the accident occurred when he attempted to navigate a right-hand curve. He reported losing control of the steering, which caused the heavy vehicle to tip over onto the concrete drainage channel, known locally as a canaleta.

As part of the standard protocol for such incidents, the driver was submitted to a breathalyzer test. The results were negative, confirming that alcohol consumption was not a contributing factor to the loss of control.

Following the initial assessment and the breathalyzer test, the injured driver was transported to the Hospital Imaculada Conceição in Curvelo for further medical evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

Authorities at the scene also verified the truck's documentation, which was found to be in order. The vehicle was subsequently released to a responsible party. The incident caused disruption on the highway, but the prompt response of emergency crews helped manage the situation.
