French champions Étoile Lavalloise make their first-ever Champions League Final Four appearance, facing AEIB Palma in a semi-final clash in Pesaro, Italy.

French futsal powerhouse Étoile Lavalloise is set to make history this weekend as the club competes in its first-ever UEFA Futsal Champions League Final Four. The triple French champions (2023, 2024, 2025) will face a monumental challenge when they take on defending champions AEIB Palma in the semi-finals on Friday evening at 20:30 local time in Pesaro, Italy.

The club's pivot, Abdessamad Mohammed, described the achievement as "a very beautiful birthday present" as the organization celebrates its twentieth anniversary. Founded in March 2006 by Julien Moreau, the club has grown from a group of friends into a European top-four contender. Moreau expressed his pride in seeing a club founded with friends reach this elite stage to mark its two decades of existence.

Laval's path to the Final Four places them among continental royalty. They join Portuguese giants Sporting Portugal, Spanish side CC Carthagène, and the formidable AEIB Palma, who are seeking their fourth consecutive European title. The French club represents only the second team from France to reach this stage, following ACCS Asnières Villeneuve 92's appearance in 2022.

Despite facing opponents with significantly larger budgets and deeper squads, the Laval players believe they belong. "We are in our place," stated international star Abdessamad Mohammed, a key figure alongside teammates Souheil Mouhoudine and Louis Marquet. "But that's not enough. We want to win on Friday, even though we know we're up against big clubs with larger rosters accustomed to this level. Where they don't expect us, we break free."

The club operates on a modest budget estimated at €1.5 million, comparable to the lowest-funded teams in France's National division. Their success is built on a strong community foundation, relying on approximately 70 dedicated volunteers and the support of 150 private sponsors. This family-oriented approach has cultivated a passionate fanbase that regularly fills the 3,300-seat Espace Mayenne arena throughout the season.

That passionate support has traveled to Italy, with 400 Laval fans making the journey to Pesaro. They hope to extend their stay as long as possible, with the ultimate goal of seeing their team compete in Sunday's final. The club aims to make its supporters proud on the biggest stage in European futsal.
