Ribeirão Preto is transforming its public health system with new UPAs, advanced technology, and digital tools, aiming for seven units by 2028.

Ribeirão Preto is executing a strategic play to overhaul its public health infrastructure, positioning itself as a leader in modern healthcare delivery. The city is making significant investments in facilities, technology, and patient flow management to create a more efficient and accessible system for its residents.

A key highlight is the city's concentration of medical specialists within its Urgent Care Units (UPAs), a standout feature in the national landscape. These units are equipped with advanced diagnostic tools like X-ray and ultrasound machines. Furthermore, the implementation of a smart panel system with priority wristbands is revolutionizing patient triage, organizing the flow based on the severity of each case. The patient experience is also enhanced with dedicated guidance services and exclusive waiting areas for children, adding a layer of comfort for families.

The network is actively expanding. The UPA Ribeirão Verde was officially inaugurated on May 4, 2026, joining the operational roster. Two additional units are in the pipeline: the UPA Central is currently under construction, while the UPA Sul is in the project phase. This expansion plan will see the municipality boast a total of seven UPAs distributed across the city by the year 2028.

Operational efficiency has received a boost through the introduction of a new protocol for issuing medical certificates. This change has streamlined the process, reducing wait times and ensuring that clinical resources are focused on patients requiring direct care.

Ribeirão Preto is also launching innovative mental health and follow-up care initiatives. The Pronto Atendimento em Saúde Mental (PAM), a dedicated mental health urgent care facility, is scheduled for inauguration in May. Additionally, the Unidade de Retorno Assistencial (URA), designed for assisted return visits, is already operational. The city's diagnostic capabilities have been elevated with the acquisition of a state-of-the-art CT scanner, described as technology of national reference.

Complementing the physical upgrades, the city is leveraging digital platforms to broaden access. Residents can utilize the "Saúde Digital" and "Cuidar + ON" applications, which facilitate access to health services and allow for easier monitoring of personal health information.

With a more structured, organized, and modernized network, Ribeirão Preto is advancing its mission to deliver increasingly efficient and humanized healthcare. The city's approach demonstrates a commitment to resolving public health challenges through proactive management and investment.
