A 22-year-old man was arrested on the morning of Friday, May 8, in Santo Antônio de Jesus, located in the Recôncavo Baiano region. He is suspected of being part of a criminal operation that dismantled stolen and robbed motorcycles in the Laje area.
According to the Civil Police of Bahia, the individual was the subject of a preventive arrest warrant issued by the Vara de Jurisdição Plena da Comarca de Laje. The charges against him include receiving stolen property, criminal association, and tampering with a vehicle's identification markers.
The suspect had previously managed to evade police during an operation in March of this year. That operation successfully dismantled a motorcycle chop shop located in the rural zone of Laje. During that earlier raid, two men were arrested in the act, one of whom was the father of the suspect captured this Friday.
Following his escape in March, authorities requested a preventive detention order. This order was officially decreed on May 5 and was carried out three days later. Police located the man at a residence in the Salomão neighborhood.
He was subsequently taken to the Delegacia Territorial of Santo Antônio de Jesus. He remains in custody there, awaiting further judicial proceedings. The arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing crackdown on organized vehicle theft and dismantling rings operating in the Bahia region.
