Čukarički, officially Fudbalski Klub Čukarički, is a Serbian professional football club based in the Belgrade municipality of Čukarica. Founded on 4 May 1926, the club began as a local sports society named Čukarički Sportski Klub, initially competing in the Belgrade Football Subassociation. The founding story is rooted in the post-World War I era when a group of young enthusiasts from the working‑class Čukarica district, led by Milivoje Morača and others, gathered to form a team that would represent their neighborhood. The club’s early decades were spent in lower divisions, often overshadowed by the bigger Belgrade clubs, but it steadily built a reputation for resilience. The team plays its home matches at the Stadion na Banovom Brdu (also known as Stadion Čukarički), officially named after club legend and former player Pavle Živković. The stadium, located in the Banovo Brdo neighborhood of Čukarica, has a capacity of around 4,070 seats. It underwent major renovations in the 2010s to meet UEFA standards, including new floodlights and an artificial pitch. Čukarički’s first major success came in 1971 when they won the Yugoslav Second League and earned promotion to the top flight. However, sustained success arrived only in the 21st century. The club’s golden era began after 2013, following takeover by the Adligat association, which brought financial stability. In the 2014–15 season, Čukarički achieved its greatest triumph: winning the Serbian Cup, defeating Partizan 2–1 in the final played at the Rajko Mitić Stadium. This secured their first major trophy and a historic spot in the 2015–16 UEFA Europa League group stage. Domestically, they have finished as runners-up in the Serbian SuperLiga twice (2015–16, 2022–23), narrowly missing the title. They have also been Serbian Cup runners-up (2021, 2023). In European competitions, Čukarički has participated in the UEFA Europa League and Europa Conference League qualifiers, reaching the group stage once (2015–16) and later the playoff round (2020–21). Legendary players include striker Dušan Savić (later a Red Star and Yugoslav national team icon), who began his career at Čukarički in the early 1970s. More recently, the club produced talents like Marko Saveljić, Đorđe Ivanović, and the prolific goalscorer Igor Matić. The current squad often features promising young players developed in their academy, known for technical skill and quick transitions. Playing style under manager Goran Stanić (and in previous years) emphasizes possession‑based football with high pressing and fluid attacking movement, earning them a reputation as one of the most attractive teams in Serbia. The club’s identity is deeply tied to the local community — the name itself is a demonym meaning “resident of Čukarica.” Fan culture is passionate but family‑oriented; the main supporters’ group is called “Brđani” (the Hill People). Derby matches against nearby Belgrade clubs, particularly Voždovac and Radnički Novi Beograd, generate local buzz, though there is no fierce traditional rivalry like those in the capital’s “Eternal Derby.” A notable fact: Čukarički is one of the few Serbian clubs to have fully renovated its stadium with a hybrid grass surface, and it operates one of the most highly rated youth academies in the country, producing several national team players. Currently, Čukarički competes in the Serbian SuperLiga and is consistently a top‑five side, often qualifying for European competitions. The club’s motto, “Sve za tim, tim za sve” (Everything for the team, team for everything), encapsulates its collective spirit. With growing infrastructure and a clear project, Čukarički continues to punch above its weight in Serbian football.
