LDF Football Club, founded in 1921 in the industrial city of Lorient, France, began as a workers’ union team under the name *Lorient Défense et Football*. The club’s early years were shaped by local shipyard laborers who played on a muddy pitch near the port. In 1932, the team adopted the acronym LDF after merging with a neighboring athletics club.
