World No. 4 Coco Gauff shares her love for gelato and pasta in Rome, and mentions a favorite court with a statue ahead of her Italian Open second-round match.

American tennis star Coco Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion and the current world No. 4, recently opened up about her off-court experiences in the Italian capital during a press conference at the WTA-1000 tournament in Rome.

When asked about her preferred activities in the city beyond the tennis, Gauff highlighted her culinary adventures. "Gelato," she stated simply, adding that she had enjoyed some the previous evening. The young champion expressed a particular fondness for sampling the various flavors the frozen treat has to offer.

Her appreciation for Italian cuisine extends to another staple. "I also like pasta," Gauff mentioned. However, she noted with a laugh that the novelty can wear off, saying that after about a week, she's had her fill. "But that week is great," she clarified, indicating she still savors the experience while she's there.

The conversation also turned to her favorite places to compete within the tournament grounds. Gauff pointed to a specific court, one she identified by its distinctive feature: a statue. She explained that due to her ranking, she doesn't get to play on that particular court as often in singles.

However, she has had the opportunity to experience it during doubles matches. "When I play doubles, we were on it a couple of times, and I like it," Gauff shared, revealing a preference for the atmosphere of that specific venue.

Looking ahead in the tournament, Gauff is set to face Czech player Tereza Valentova in the second round of the Italian Open. The match will be her next step as she continues her campaign on the Roman clay.
