Brazilian influencer Luan Lennon, whose full name is Luan Lennon Camacho Braga Oliveira, has been arrested by civil police in Rio de Janeiro. The arrest stems from allegations that he and his team orchestrated a fake theft in the city's downtown area to create content for his social media channels.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning. According to investigators from the 4ª DP (Praça da República), the influencer deliberately left a car window open. He then allegedly arranged for a local parking attendant, known as a flanelinha, to pay a pedestrian R$30 to steal a mobile phone from inside the vehicle.
The entire scene was being filmed by Lennon from a different car parked across the street. The plan reportedly involved the influencer then intervening to perform a citizen's arrest on the supposed thief, creating dramatic content for his online platforms.
However, the scheme quickly unraveled. When Lennon confronted the pedestrian and attempted to make the arrest, the individual denied any involvement in the crime. The situation escalated, prompting the military police to be called to the scene.
Responding officers took all parties involved to the local police station for questioning. Following the investigation, Luan Lennon and two members of his production team were formally arrested. The parking attendant who allegedly facilitated the setup has not yet been identified.
The civil police from the 4ª DP continue to investigate the case. The arrests highlight the extreme lengths some content creators are willing to go to in order to generate viral material, often crossing legal and ethical boundaries.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of staging criminal acts for online fame. The influencer now faces serious legal repercussions for his alleged actions.
