A tragic incident unfolded in the Brazilian state of Bahia on Friday morning, resulting in the death of an unidentified man. The victim suffered a fatal electric shock during an attempted theft at a Neoenergia Coelba energy substation located in the municipality of Ipirá.
According to the energy distributor, the man was attempting to steal cables from a high-power transformer within the facility when the accident occurred. The high-voltage equipment proved instantly lethal, underscoring the extreme danger of such criminal activities.
The attempted theft had immediate consequences for the local community. To allow emergency services and authorities to safely access the substation and secure the scene, the power supply for the surrounding region had to be temporarily suspended. This outage lasted for approximately five minutes.
The discovery was made after local residents or security alerted authorities. The Polícia Militar (PM) confirmed that units from the 98th Independent Military Police Company (CIPM) were dispatched to the location after receiving reports of a body inside the Coelba substation.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed the fatality and initiated the standard protocol. They contacted the Department of Technical Police (DPT) to conduct a forensic examination and arrange for the removal of the victim's body from the industrial site.
The Polícia Civil later provided additional details, stating that the body was ultimately located on the BA-052 highway. The case has been formally registered by the Territorial Police Station of Ipirá as a death caused by electric shock.
This event serves as a stark reminder of the lethal risks associated with tampering with high-voltage electrical infrastructure. Authorities consistently warn that such actions are not only illegal but also extremely life-threatening.
