Maranhão Civil Police arrested a 40-year-old man sentenced to 12 years and 5 months for the 2020 rape of a minor in Aldeias Altas, part of a national operation

In a significant law enforcement action, the Civil Police of Maranhão (PCMA) announced the arrest of a 40-year-old man on Wednesday, May 6th. The individual had been sentenced to a prison term of 12 years and 5 months for the crime of rape of a vulnerable person, an offense that occurred in the municipality of Aldeias Altas back in 2020.

The arrest was carried out as part of the "Operação Caminhos Seguros" (Safe Paths Operation), a nationwide initiative coordinated by Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The operation's primary objective is to intensify efforts to combat sexual violence against children and adolescents across the country.

Authorities had been searching for the convicted man for some time. The warrant for his arrest was issued by the 3rd Criminal Court of Caxias. Police officers from the Regional Police Station of Caxias and the Rapid Employment Group (GPE) conducted extensive searches, covering various villages and rural zones in the municipalities of Caxias and Coelho Neto.

Their diligent efforts ultimately led them to the rural area of Aldeias Altas, where the fugitive was successfully located and apprehended. The operation received support from the local police station in Aldeias Altas.

Following his capture, the man was transferred to the Resocialization Prison Unit (UPR) in Caxias. He will remain in custody there, at the disposal of the Justice system, to serve out his sentence.

This arrest underscores the ongoing commitment of Brazilian authorities to execute court sentences and protect vulnerable populations, particularly children, from sexual crimes. The coordinated effort highlights the effectiveness of targeted operations in bringing convicted individuals to justice.
