Paraíba government allocates R$6 million to repair roads destroyed by heavy rains affecting 37,400 people, with 2,774 displaced and federal emergency declared

Paraíba Floods: R$6M Road Repair Fund After 37,400 AffectedThe government of Paraíba has announced a R$6 million investment to repair roads destroyed by heavy rains that have battered the state since last Friday. The decision was made following a meeting between Governor Lucas Ribeiro (PP) and mayors of affected cities, with the presence of Hugo Motta, President of the Chamber of Deputies.

The severe weather has impacted more than 37,400 people across the state, leaving 2,774 displaced and 241 without shelter. The Corpo de Bombeiros (Fire Department) has conducted 478 accumulated emergency responses, rescuing 349 people from at-risk areas.

In response to the widespread damage, the Federal Government has officially recognized a state of emergency in 30 municipalities within Paraíba. This recognition is a critical step in mobilizing additional federal resources and support for the affected regions.

The R$6 million fund is specifically targeted at restoring critical transportation infrastructure that has been compromised by the flooding and landslides caused by the persistent rainfall. Road repairs are essential for reconnecting isolated communities and facilitating the delivery of aid and supplies.

The collaborative meeting between state and federal officials, including the head of the lower house of Congress, underscores the severity of the situation and the coordinated effort required for recovery. The focus remains on immediate relief for the thousands affected and the long-term restoration of essential services and infrastructure in the impacted municipalities.
