Recife Metro train delivery reduced from 11 to 7 after 4 of 5 trains from Porto Alegre failed inspection due to degradation and high recovery costs.

Recife Metro Train Delivery Reduced After Inspection FailuresThe planned reinforcement of the Recife Metro system has been scaled back following a series of inspection failures. An agreement between the federal government and the state of Pernambuco originally called for the delivery of 11 trains to bolster the metro's fleet. However, that number has now been reduced to seven.

The reduction is due to the poor condition of trains arriving from Porto Alegre. Of the five locomotives sent from the southern city, four were rejected during their technical inspection. The trains were deemed unfit due to their high degree of degradation and the prohibitive costs associated with their recovery and refurbishment. Only one train from Porto Alegre met the required standards for acceptance.

The delivery schedule for the remaining trains, which are set to arrive from Belo Horizonte, remains unchanged. According to the current calendar, these trains are expected to arrive between May and September 2026.
