Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo's general manager reveals at least one Western Conference club has shown interest in forward Vasily Atanasov, whose contract expires May 31. The team has made a renewal offer.

The general manager of Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo, Evgeny Zabuga, has provided an update on the contract situation of forward Vasily Atanasov. The player's current agreement with the KHL club is set to expire on May 31.

Zabuga began by congratulating Atanasov on a personal milestone, noting the forward recently became a father. He suggested this new chapter has helped Atanasov mature and gain a more serious perspective. The club had already presented a contract extension offer to the player back in the second half of April.

However, personal circumstances intervened. Atanasov was with his wife during this period and requested some time to consider the offer. Zabuga indicated that a decision regarding the continuation of their professional relationship is expected to be made around the middle of May.

When asked about potential NHL interest in the player, Zabuga stated there are currently no options from North America. However, he revealed that Atanasov has attracted attention from at least one club in the Western Conference of the KHL. The general manager expressed uncertainty about whether any direct communication has occurred between the player and that interested team.

Zabuga clarified Atanasov's contractual status, describing him as a restricted free agent. This means any decision on his future must be made jointly between the player and the club. The Torpedo executive emphasized he would not rule out any possibilities, acknowledging it is difficult to know a person's true thoughts.

The club believes it has made a fair and competitive offer that matches Atanasov's skill level and contribution to the team. Zabuga expressed hope that the forward will choose to remain with Torpedo, highlighting his popularity among the team's fanbase.

The situation remains fluid, with the final outcome expected to become clearer in the coming weeks as the May deadline approaches.
