Melchie Dumornay wins UNFP Best Player with 9 assists; Mylène Chavas takes Best GK with 17 clean sheets; Justine Rouquet named Best Young Player.

Melchie Dumornay was crowned best player of the Première Ligue at the Trophées UNFP, capping a season where she dominated with nine assists in just nine starts. The Lyon forward, who previously won the best young player award in 2022 while at Reims, was runner-up last year to Clara Mateo. This time, she collected the top prize after a stellar campaign that saw her evolve into the creative engine of Jonatan Giraldez's team.

Dumornay's development under Giraldez has been transformative. "With him, I have improved my reading of the game, and he gives me individual sessions to progress. I now spread myself less, respect my position in midfield more, and have enhanced my pressing and transition choices," she said. Her performances helped Lyon secure the Coupe de France with a 4-1 win over PSG, and she now targets the league title and the Champions League.

At just 22, Dumornay is already being tipped for the Ballon d'Or. Ranked 18th last September, she expects to climb significantly after this season's exploits. "I want to win the league and the Champions League, and become a favorite for the Ballon d'Or," she hinted.

Earlier, Mylène Chavas was named best goalkeeper of the championship. The Paris FC shot-stopper kept 17 clean sheets this season, denying Christiane Endler a fifth consecutive award. Chavas' reliability has been key for Paris FC, pushing them into title contention. "It's a great honor to be recognized among so many talented keepers," she said.

Justine Rouquet, an 18-year-old from Montpellier, won the best young player award. She becomes the second MHSC player to win the honor after Sakina Karchaoui in 2017. Rouquet's emergence signals a bright future for the club, which has struggled in recent years.

The Trophées UNFP ceremony highlighted the depth of talent in the Première Ligue. Dumornay's award underscores Lyon's continued dominance, while Chavas and Rouquet represent the competitive spirit of other clubs. For Dumornay, the next step is to lead Lyon to European glory and cement her place among the world's elite.

The night also celebrated Lyon's recent cup success, with Dumornay joining teammates Selma Bacha and Wendie Renard in a celebratory dance after the final. But at the awards, she was all business, focused on the future. "I'm hungry for more titles," she added.

These awards reflect a league growing in quality and global recognition. Dumornay's ascent, Chavas' consistency, and Rouquet's promise bode well for French football. With the Women's Champions League and international tournaments ahead, these players are set to shine on bigger stages.
