Day two of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome saw first-round action on May 6, 2026. Key results include wins for Tatjana Maria and Jelena Ostapenko, while two matches were suspended due to rain.

The second day of main draw action at the WTA 1000 clay-court event in Rome, Italy, took place on May 6, 2026. The schedule featured a full slate of first-round singles matches, with several notable outcomes and weather interruptions shaping the early stages of the tournament.

Germany's Tatjana Maria delivered a dominant performance, defeating Poland's Magda Linette in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko also advanced with a convincing victory, overcoming Italy's Lucrezia Stefaniini 6-1, 6-0. In a closely contested all-Italian affair, Lisa Pigato won the opening set against Tyra Caterina Grant before her opponent rallied to take the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Several matches went the distance. France's Leolia Jeanjean edged out Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia in a tight first-set tiebreak, eventually winning 7-6(8-6), 6-4. Czech player Karolina Pliskova staged a comeback against Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, prevailing 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Meanwhile, Hungary's Panna Udvardy secured her spot in the next round by defeating Russia's Alina Korneeva 6-2, 7-6(7-2).

American players had a mixed day. Taylor Townsend advanced comfortably with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Italy's Nuria Brancaccio. Peyton Stearns also moved on, beating China's Jiajie Chen 6-4, 6-4. However, Katie McNally of the USA was eliminated by Australia's Daria Kasatkina, who won 6-2, 6-4.

Rain played a significant role in the day's proceedings, forcing the suspension of two matches. The encounter between Ukraine's Yuliya Starodubtseva and Switzerland's Simona Waltert was stopped with the score at 5-7, 6-4, 1-4 in favor of Waltert. Another match, featuring Italy's Noemi Bozalenti against Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic, was halted with Bozalenti leading 5-3. Both matches are scheduled to be completed at a later date.

Other winners on the day included Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic, who cruised past Italy's Federica Urgesi 6-1, 6-1, and Germany's Laura Siegemund, who defeated Czech Republic's Sara Bejlek 6-4, 6-4. Argentina's Solana Sierra also progressed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Germany's Tamara Korpatsch.

The tournament continues with more first-round matches as players look to advance on the Roman clay. The results from May 6 set the stage for the upcoming second-round clashes.
