Ypê's administrative appeal has suspended Anvisa's recall order for its cleaning products, but the agency maintains its risk assessment. Consumers are advised

In a significant development, Brazilian cleaning products manufacturer Ypê has filed an administrative appeal with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). This legal move has automatically suspended the agency's recent resolution that ordered the immediate recall and halt of production, sale, and distribution for a range of its products.

The affected products include detergents, liquid soaps, and disinfectants from the Ypê brand, specifically those with batch numbers ending in the digit 1. The company's appeal, based on Article 17 of Anvisa's own RDC 266/2019, means the recall is effectively paused until the agency's collegiate board makes a new decision, which is expected in the coming days.

Despite the suspension of the recall order, Anvisa has firmly stated that its technical risk assessment remains unchanged. The agency's initial action was prompted by an inspection at Ypê's manufacturing facility in Amparo, São Paulo, conducted between April 27 and 30, 2026. This inspection was part of a joint operation with state and municipal health surveillance authorities.

The inspection was triggered by a history of microbiological contamination issues at the company. In November 2025, Ypê had issued a voluntary precautionary recall for certain liquid laundry detergent batches after detecting the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The recent inspection aimed to re-evaluate manufacturing conditions following this prior incident and new information.

During the April inspection, officials identified failures in critical stages of the production process. These included shortcomings in quality assurance systems, production protocols, and quality control measures. According to Anvisa, these issues compromise Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for sanitizers and indicate a risk to the products' sanitary safety, with the potential for microbiological contamination.

In its official statement, Ypê emphasized that consumer safety is its highest priority. The company reaffirmed its 75-year commitment to quality and transparency and stated it is in constant dialogue with Anvisa to find a definitive solution as quickly as possible, based on scientific criteria and technical evidence.

For now, Anvisa's recommendation to the public remains the same: consumers should not use the indicated products. They are advised to contact Ypê's Customer Service (SAC) for guidance on the recall procedure, which may include exchanges, returns, or refunds.
