Over 29,000 people have registered for Acre's CNH Social 2026 program, which offers 5,000 free driver's licenses. Registration is open until May 12, with special quotas for domestic violence victims.

The state of Acre is witnessing a massive response to its CNH Social 2026 program, a major social initiative aimed at providing free driver's licenses to eligible residents. According to the state's Department of Traffic (Detran-AC), a total of 29,345 individuals have completed their registrations between March 13 and May 4. The breakdown shows 19,505 applicants in the urban category, 8,688 in the rural category, and 1,152 in the student category.

Officials have confirmed that the registration window has been extended. Those interested in participating now have until Tuesday, May 12, to submit their applications. All sign-ups must be processed exclusively through the official Detran website, specifically within the dedicated CNH Social section.

This year's edition of the program is particularly significant as it offers up to 5,000 free spots for obtaining the Carteira Nacional de Habilitação (CNH), Brazil's national driver's license. The president of Detran-AC, Taynara Martins, emphasized the program's scale and its importance as one of the state's largest social projects. She highlighted that the initiative is designed to provide new opportunities through improved mobility and better access to the job market.

A notable feature of the 2026 program is the inclusion of a specific quota for women who are victims of domestic violence. A total of 250 spots, representing 5% of the total, are reserved for this group. To qualify, applicants must present documentation proving their vulnerable situation and an active protective measure. This measure was implemented after Acre recorded the highest proportional rate of femicides in Brazil in 2025, with 14 cases, equating to 1.58 per 100,000 inhabitants. The state is the third in the country to introduce such a quota within the CNH Social framework.

The program is structured into three distinct modalities, and each candidate may apply for only one. The CNH Estudantil is for young people aged 18 to 25 who completed high school in the public school system. The CNH Urbana is for residents of urban areas who are registered in the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico). The CNH Rural is for those living in rural zones who are also enrolled in CadÚnico.

To be eligible, all applicants must be over 18 years old, literate, possess a CPF (individual taxpayer registry), and have an active CadÚnico registration for at least four months prior to the registration opening. They must also be residents of Acre with a compatible family income. For those seeking to add a new category to an existing license, they cannot have committed serious or very serious traffic infractions, nor been a repeat offender of medium infractions in the 12 months preceding registration.

Since its creation in 2022, the CNH Social program has already benefited approximately 17,000 people in Acre. The continued high level of public interest underscores its role as a critical tool for social inclusion and economic empowerment across the state. Based on reporting from g1.
