Brazil's health agency Anvisa has suspended manufacturing and ordered a recall of dozens of Ypê cleaning products after a factory inspection revealed critical production failures and potential contamination risks.

In a major regulatory action, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has thrown a flag on the play for one of the country's leading cleaning product manufacturers. The agency has officially suspended the production, sale, and distribution of dozens of items from the Ypê brand, ordering an immediate recall of specific product batches from store shelves and homes.

The decisive move came after a comprehensive inspection at Ypê's manufacturing facility located in Amparo, São Paulo. According to the municipal Health Surveillance office, the on-site inspection was a four-day operation, running from Monday the 27th through Thursday the 30th. A team of four inspectors was deployed to oversee and audit the company's processes throughout the week.

The findings from this inspection were significant. Anvisa's official resolution cited the discovery of 'relevant non-compliances in critical stages of the production process.' The agency stated that failures were identified in the company's quality assurance systems, production protocols, and overall control measures. These shortcomings were deemed to compromise the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and, most alarmingly, indicated a potential risk of contamination by microorganisms in the finished products.

As a direct result of the inspection, the municipal authorities issued an official infraction notice against the company. Ypê now has a 10-day window to formally appeal this decision. The specific details of the irregularities found during the municipal inspection have not been made public at this time.

The recall is highly specific, targeting only products from certain batches. Consumers are advised to check the lot numbers on their Ypê items; the recall applies only to batches where the numbering ends with the digit '1'. The affected product categories include a wide range of dishwashing liquids, laundry detergents, and disinfectants. Popular lines such as Ypê Clear Care, Ypê Green, Tixan, and Atol are among those listed in the recall notice.

For consumers who may have these products at home, Anvisa's guidance is clear: stop using them immediately. The recommended course of action is to contact Ypê's Consumer Service (SAC) directly to get information on the return and reimbursement procedures. The company has provided a dedicated email ([email protected]) and a toll-free number (0800 1300 544) for this purpose.

Ypê has responded to the situation, pushing back against the severity of the agency's findings. In an official statement, the company asserted that it possesses 'robust scientific foundation, based on independent tests and technical reports,' which it claims prove that its products are safe and pose no risk to consumers. The company expressed its full confidence in having the decision reversed in the shortest possible timeframe, emphasizing its ongoing dialogue with Anvisa and its commitment to quality and transparency.
