A power outage halted the Baptist-Waltert match during the deciding third set at the Rome Masters. Play resumed after the delay, with Baptist advancing to face

A dramatic power outage interrupted a second-round match at the Rome Masters tournament, creating an unusual delay in play. The incident occurred during the decisive third set between American tennis player Hailey Baptist, ranked 25th in the world, and Swiss competitor Simone Waltert, who holds the 91st position in the global rankings.

The match was part of the prestigious 'thousand' level event being held in the Italian capital. Play was suspended when the court lights suddenly switched off, plunging the playing area into darkness and forcing both athletes and officials to wait for the issue to be resolved.

After a period of interruption, the lighting system was restored and the match was able to continue. The delay did not ultimately change the outcome, as Hailey Baptist managed to secure the victory and progress to the next stage of the competition.

With this win, Baptist has now set up a challenging encounter in the following round. She will face the tournament's tenth-seeded player, Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina, who advanced comfortably in her own second-round match. Svitolina defeated Italian player Noemi Basilletti in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-3.

The Rome Masters continues to feature a strong field of competitors. The defending champion for the women's singles title is Italian player Jasmine Paolini, who is currently ranked as the eighth-best player in the world and will be looking to retain her crown on home soil.
