Carolina Sthela Ferreira dos Anjos, suspected of assaulting and torturing a pregnant 19-year-old domestic worker, was arrested in Teresina. Her lawyer states she is 'a bit scared' as she awaits transfer back to São Luís.

In a significant development in a disturbing case from Maranhão, businesswoman Carolina Sthela Ferreira dos Anjos, the primary suspect in the alleged assault and torture of a 19-year-old pregnant domestic worker, has been apprehended. Her arrest took place this Thursday in the city of Teresina, Piauí, bringing a major phase of the investigation to a close.

Following her capture, her defense attorney, Bruno Silva, provided a brief update on her condition. He communicated that his client is currently 'a bit scared' as she processes the situation. Silva noted that while they attempted a conversation, she was still undergoing internal procedures, and a more detailed discussion would have to wait.

The circumstances of her arrest paint a picture of a suspect on the run. According to police intelligence, Carolina had been staying at an uncle's house in Teresina. However, she reportedly left the residence after her uncle confronted her about the serious criminal allegations and advised her to surrender to the authorities. Her flight was cut short when she was located and arrested at a gas station near the headquarters of the Piauí State Secretariat of Public Security (SSP-PI).

Authorities revealed that her intended destination after leaving the gas station was likely the coast of Piauí or the state of Amazonas, indicating a plan to continue evading justice. The director of intelligence for the SSP-PI, Yan Brayner, confirmed the uncle's cooperation with the investigation but also pointed out a potential legal consequence for him. Brayner stated that the uncle could potentially face charges for the crime of personal favoritism for his initial role in harboring the suspect.

The next step in the judicial process is the suspect's transfer back to the jurisdiction where the alleged crimes occurred. The Secretariat of Public Security of Piauí confirmed that Carolina Sthela Ferreira dos Anjos will be transported to São Luís via a helicopter belonging to the Maranhão Military Police. Delegado Matheus Zanatta specified that this transfer operation is scheduled to take place at the Centro de Formação e Aperfeiçoamento Profissional (Cefap) later this same Thursday.

This arrest marks a crucial moment for the victim and the ongoing investigation, ensuring the suspect will face the legal system in Maranhão. The case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of domestic workers and the serious nature of the crimes alleged. All procedural steps are now focused on her secure transfer and subsequent judicial proceedings.
