Spanish players vote 93.14% in favor of AFE to represent them in negotiating the new LALIGA Collective Agreement for Primera and Segunda División.

In a decisive show of unity, professional footballers across Spain's top two divisions have elected the Asociación de Futbolistas Españoles (AFE) as their exclusive representative for upcoming labor negotiations. The election, which concluded this week, saw AFE secure a commanding mandate from the players it will represent.

The voting process took place in all 42 dressing rooms of Primera and Segunda División, the highest tiers of men's football in Spain. When the ballots were counted, AFE emerged with an overwhelming 856 votes, representing 93.14% of all valid votes cast. This resounding endorsement ensures that AFE will be the sole union sitting at the negotiating table for the new Collective Agreement.

This election follows AFE's formal denunciation of the previous Collective Agreement back in December. The union initiated this process with the stated goal of introducing what it described as necessary improvements across various areas affecting player welfare and working conditions. The players' vote now solidifies AFE's position to lead those negotiations on behalf of the entire professional football workforce in Spain's top divisions.

AFE leadership expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them by the players. In a statement, the association emphasized that this backing reinforces their commitment to defending player rights and interests. They also pledged to continue their work with responsibility, transparency, and a close connection to the athletes they serve.

The outcome means that unlike previous negotiation cycles where multiple entities might have sought a seat at the table, AFE will enter discussions as the unified and singular voice for players. This consolidation of representation is expected to streamline the negotiation process with LALIGA and club owners.

The new Collective Agreement will cover a wide range of issues, from salary structures and contract terms to training conditions and player health protocols. With the election concluded, formal negotiations between AFE and the league are anticipated to commence in the near future.
