Waterford FC, known as “The Blues,” was founded in 1930 and has become one of the most storied clubs in Irish football. Based in the historic port city of Waterford in the southeast of Ireland, the club’s early years saw rapid success, winning its first FAI Cup in 1937—the first team from outside Dublin to lift the trophy. The club’s golden era came in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when under manager Alfie Hale, Waterford dominated the League of Ireland, claiming six league titles between 1966 and 1973. This period also saw memorable European campaigns against teams like Manchester United, Celtic, and Valencia. The club plays its home matches at the Waterford Regional Sports Centre (RSC), a 5,500-capacity stadium (with 1,200 seated) located in the heart of the city. Currently, Waterford FC competes in the League of Ireland Premier Division, having secured promotion by winning the 2023 First Division title.
