Tourist Dies After Eating Crab Despite Shrimp Allergy in MaceióA tragic incident occurred on a beach in Maceió, Alagoas, when a tourist from Mato Grosso died after consuming crab, despite having a known allergy to shrimp.

The victim, identified as Eryvelton Gomes, a 34-year-old hairdresser from Várzea Grande, reportedly believed that eating crab would not cause an allergic reaction, despite his documented shrimp allergy. He fell ill shortly after consumption.

Emergency services rushed Gomes to a local UPA (Unidade de Pronto Atendimento), where medical teams attempted resuscitation for approximately 40 minutes. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the serious risks associated with food allergies, particularly when individuals assume that similar food items may not trigger a reaction. Health experts consistently advise that individuals with known shellfish allergies should avoid all types of shellfish, including crab, lobster, and shrimp, due to the high risk of cross-reactivity.
