Rondônia braces for its first cold snap of the year starting Friday, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected through early next week, according to Censipam.

Rondônia is set to experience its first significant cold spell of the year, with a polar air mass advancing from Argentina and Uruguay expected to reach the state starting this Friday, May 8th. The weather system will bring unstable conditions, including a notable drop in temperatures across various regions.

The cold front is forecast to trigger heavy rain showers accompanied by thunderstorms on Saturday, May 9th, particularly affecting the central-southern part of Rondônia. Residents should prepare for wet and potentially disruptive weather throughout the day.

By Sunday, May 10th, temperatures will begin to fall noticeably in the Cone Sul region of Rondônia. The cold air is then expected to advance northward, reaching the state capital of Porto Velho between Sunday and Monday, May 11th.

According to the Centro Gestor e Operacional do Sistema de Proteção da Amazônia (Censipam), the effects of this cold snap will linger in Rondônia until at least May 12th. The prolonged period of cooler weather marks a shift from the typical climate patterns for this time of year.

The polar air mass responsible for this weather change formed over southern South America and has been tracking northward through Brazil. Its arrival in Rondônia signals the beginning of cooler conditions in the Amazon region.

Authorities advise residents to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially during the heavy rainfall expected on Saturday. The combination of rain and cooler temperatures could impact outdoor activities and travel plans across the state.
