After a brief 1-0 win over Dortmund, Gladbach fell 1-3 in Augsburg, drawing sharp criticism from Polanski and Schröder.

Borussia Mönchengladbach's recent resurgence proved short-lived as they suffered a disappointing 1-3 defeat to FC Augsburg on Saturday. The loss comes just days after a promising 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, which had sparked hopes of a turnaround. However, the performance in Augsburg was a stark contrast, leaving the team once again facing heavy criticism from within.

Following the match, club legends and pundits Eugen Polanski and Marcel Schröder did not hold back in their assessment of the squad. Polanski, a former Gladbach midfielder, described the display as "unacceptable" and questioned the team's mentality. Schröder echoed those sentiments, pointing out that the win over Dortmund was nothing more than a "flash in the pan."

Gladbach showed little of the intensity that had seen them overcome Dortmund just four days earlier. They fell behind early to a goal from Augsburg's Ermedin Demirović and struggled to create clear-cut chances. Alassane Plea equalized just before halftime, but the home side regained the lead through a Ruben Vargas strike early in the second half. Augsburg sealed the win with a third goal from Arne Maier, leaving Gladbach with no response.

Defensively, Gladbach were porous, allowing Augsburg too much space in dangerous areas. Offensively, they lacked creativity and sharpness, with key players failing to step up. The team's inconsistency has been a recurring theme this season, and the defeat drops them to 11th in the Bundesliga table.

Polanski emphasized that the squad must take responsibility for their performances. "This is not about tactics or individual mistakes—it's about attitude and desire," he said. "The fans deserve better, and the players need to ask themselves if they are giving everything." Schröder added that the coaching staff also have questions to answer regarding team selection and motivation.

The defeat adds pressure on manager Gerardo Seoane, whose side has now won only four of their last 15 league matches. With a crucial run of fixtures ahead, including a clash against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, Gladbach urgently need to rediscover their form.
