In a significant legal crackdown on digital piracy, the owner of an illegal IPTV service has been handed a substantial prison sentence. Ivanildo Melo dos Santos, the proprietor of the platform known as "SkyFlix," was convicted and sentenced to five years behind bars.

The conviction, handed down by the Vara Única de Carnaíba in the Sertão region of Pernambuco, found dos Santos guilty of two serious crimes: violation of copyright and money laundering. The sentence was officially signed by Judge Erasmo José da Silva Neto and published in the National Electronic Justice Diary on April 28.

The investigation, conducted by the Civil Police and supported by a complaint from the Public Ministry of Pernambuco (MPPE), revealed the full scope of the illegal operation. The platform, accessible via the website skyflix.com.br, functioned as an unauthorized pay-TV service, offering a wide library of content to subscribers.

For a monthly fee of R$30, users could access a vast array of channels, movies, and series. However, this content was made available without any legal authorization from the rightful copyright holders, constituting a clear and deliberate infringement of intellectual property laws.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts by Brazilian authorities to combat the proliferation of illegal streaming services that undermine legitimate broadcasters and content creators. The dual charges of piracy and money laundering indicate the financial scale and criminal intent behind the operation.

This verdict serves as a stern warning to operators of similar illicit platforms across the country. The judiciary is demonstrating a willingness to impose severe penalties to protect the rights of content owners and the integrity of the media market.
