A seven-hour hearing was held in Caldas Novas as witnesses testified in the murder case of real estate agent Daiane Alves de Souza, killed by her building superintendent. The court aims to decide if the accused will face a jury trial.

The wheels of justice are turning in a high-profile murder case from Caldas Novas, Goiás. A lengthy seven-hour hearing took place this week as the court began hearing testimony from key witnesses in the case against Cleber Rosa de Oliveira, the building superintendent accused of killing real estate agent Daiane Alves de Souza.

The hearing, presided over by Judge Vaneska da Silva Baruki, saw testimony from a range of individuals connected to the case. According to the victim's family lawyer, Lucas Xavier, those called to testify included family members of both the victim and the accused, as well as the police detectives who led the investigation into the crime.

This initial hearing is part of a two-stage process designed to determine whether the case will proceed to a full jury trial. The next session is scheduled for July 9th, where additional witnesses will be heard. The central question for the court is whether Cleber Rosa de Oliveira will face a popular jury for the alleged crime.

The case dates back to December 17, 2025, when Daiane Alves Souza de Oliveira disappeared after going to the basement of her apartment building to check on a power outage. A video recovered by police, which Daiane herself had recorded, captured the chilling moment she was attacked. The investigation revealed she was killed that same evening, suffering two gunshot wounds to the head.

Her body was discovered approximately 40 days later, in a wooded area about 15 kilometers from Caldas Novas. The breakthrough in the investigation came when police recovered Daiane's hidden cell phone and analyzed the final video she recorded, which helped prove the crime was premeditated and carried out via an ambush.

Cleber Rosa de Oliveira was arrested after confessing to the murder and leading police to the location of the victim's body. Despite his confession, the method of the killing was not initially disclosed. He has remained in custody since his arrest.

The motive behind the tragic incident appears rooted in a long-standing feud. Police indicated that the conflict stemmed from a dispute over the management of six apartment units owned by the victim's family, which had previously been managed by the superintendent. This professional disagreement escalated into a series of legal battles, with a total of 12 court processes involving both parties. The superintendent had even been charged by the Public Ministry with persecution against the real estate agent prior to her disappearance.

The victim's family is represented by a team of lawyers including Lucas Xavier, Samuel Moreira, Fidel Braga, and Arnaldo Segatto. The defense for the accused did not respond to requests for comment from the reporting outlet.
