A lifeguard was injured after being robbed while cycling in Guarujá, São Paulo. The victim fell from his bike while fleeing, sustaining abrasions and a head wound requiring stitches.

A 35-year-old lifeguard working for the Maritime Fire Brigade (GBMar) became the victim of a violent robbery while cycling home after his shift in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo. The incident, which occurred on the night of Monday, May 4th, left the professional with significant injuries after he was forced from his bicycle during the crime.

According to the police report filed at the Guarujá precinct, the victim was pedaling along Avenida Adhemar de Barros when he noticed another cyclist watching him intently. Although the lifeguard found the behavior suspicious, he continued on his route. The situation escalated when the observer later reappeared with two accomplices, cornering the victim.

The assailants announced the robbery with the phrase "perdeu, perdeu" (you lost, you lost), a common criminal slang in Brazil. In a desperate attempt to escape the ambush, the lifeguard tried to flee but lost control and crashed from his bicycle. The fall resulted in multiple abrasions across his body and a serious head injury that required medical stitching.

The criminals managed to steal the victim's backpack during the chaos. The stolen bag contained personal belongings valued at approximately R$ 3,000, along with his official GBMar uniform. The lifeguard confirmed the details of the attack in his statement to the authorities.

Following the incident, the victim sought medical treatment for his injuries. He reported needing stitches for the wound on his head in addition to treating the various scrapes and bruises sustained during the fall. The case has been officially registered as a robbery.

This crime highlights the risks faced by essential workers commuting in the region. The Guarujá police are investigating the case, though no arrests have been reported at this time. The loss of the official uniform is a particular blow to the professional, who relies on the gear for his duties protecting beachgoers.
