A 37-year-old man, accused of a violent sexual assault committed over a decade and a half ago, has been apprehended in Boa Vista, Roraima. The arrest brings a long-awaited development in a case that has been open since November 2010, marking a significant breakthrough for local law enforcement.

The crime in question occurred in the early hours of November 22, 2010. According to the investigation, the victim, an 18-year-old woman at the time, was taken to the suspect's residence following a social gathering. There, she was reportedly restrained, physically assaulted, and sexually violated despite her pleas for the attacks to stop.

For 15 years, the accused individual remained a fugitive from justice. His capture was finally achieved on Thursday, May 7, in the Buriti neighborhood on the west side of Boa Vista. The successful operation was a direct result of coordinated police work.

The arrest was executed under the banner of 'Operação Caminhos Seguros' (Operation Safe Paths). This is a strategic initiative by the Civil Police aimed at combating sexual violence, exploitation, and crimes specifically targeting children, adolescents, and other vulnerable populations.

The investigation into the original crime is being handled by the Delegacia de Proteção à Criança e ao Adolescente (DPCA), the specialized police station for the protection of children and adolescents. The arrest operation was personally coordinated by Delegate Matheus Rezende.

Delegate Rezende emphasized the police force's unwavering commitment to such cases. 'The Civil Police acts with absolute rigor in combating crimes against sexual dignity, especially within strategic operations like Caminhos Seguros, which strengthen qualified repression and ensure the fulfillment of judicial decisions,' he stated.

The suspect now faces formal charges. He is a defendant for the crime of qualified rape due to the involvement of multiple agents. Following his arrest, he was scheduled to be presented for a custody hearing on Friday, May 8.
