In a disturbing case from Caruaru, Pernambuco, a 56-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of raping his 16-year-old adoptive daughter. The arrest was executed by officers from the 4th Women's Police Station following a warrant issued by the city's Domestic Violence Court.
The investigation revealed that the alleged abuse occurred within the domestic setting while the suspect held legal custody of the victim. The crime came to light after the teenager engaged in self-harm and subsequently sought assistance from her school, which then alerted authorities.
Authorities noted that the adoption process for the adolescent by the detained man was still ongoing at the time of the arrest. This detail underscores the vulnerability of the victim, who was placed in his care under judicial guardianship.
Further complicating the case, police reports indicate the young woman had a pre-existing history of vulnerability. Before living with the current suspect, she had allegedly suffered sexual violence from a previous stepfather when she was under the age of 14.
