Manchester United drew 0-0 at Sunderland, missing the chance to lock up third place. They need one point from their last two games. Lammens made crucial saves.

Manchester United squandered the chance to mathematically secure third place in the Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Red Devils needed a victory to guarantee a top-three finish with two matches remaining, but they produced a lackluster display against a spirited Black Cats outfit.

Sunderland, playing with the confidence of a side that has exceeded expectations since promotion, created the clearer opportunities. Noah Sadiki and Brian Bobbey both tested United goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who was in inspired form. The Belgian shot-stopper made a series of crucial saves to keep the scores level, earning praise for his performance.

United offered little in attack for much of the game. Their only shot on target came deep into added time when Matheus Cunha's effort was saved by Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs. It was a rare moment of danger from the visitors, who otherwise struggled to break down a well-organized Sunderland defense.

The result leaves Manchester United six points clear of Liverpool in fourth place. With two games left, they need just one point to confirm third spot. Michael Carrick's side will hope to get that point in their next fixture, but the performance at Sunderland will give them cause for reflection.

Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka was proud of his team's display. Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: "Nearly a perfect game. We created so many chances against a really good team. If you have so many chances you need to score one, for sure. We had good momentum. This is part of the process, to keep believing in ourselves."

Xhaka also emphasized humility and long-term progress. "I give you a very easy answer: stay humble. We just got promoted. The demands are very high. We know where to improve, stay humble, and stay kind, because we're getting there." He added that the team is not focused on European qualification but aims to finish the season strongly.

For Sunderland, the point was valuable in their fight for Premier League survival. They remain in a competitive position, and performances like this suggest they have the quality to stay up. Manchester United, meanwhile, will look to seal third place at the earliest opportunity.
