The LFP disciplinary commission has upheld Brice Samba's yellow card from the Lyon match, confirming his suspension for Rennes' final Ligue 1 game against Marseille.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) disciplinary commission has delivered its final verdict on the case of Rennes goalkeeper Brice Samba. After reviewing the club's appeal, the commission decided on Wednesday to uphold the yellow card Samba received during the recent match against Lyon, which ended in a 2-4 defeat for his team. This decision means the French international will be unavailable for selection for the crucial final fixture of the season.

The suspension stems from an incident during the Lyon game at the Groupama Stadium. Samba was shown a yellow card by referee Clément Turpin following a penalty awarded to Lyon for their second goal. The sequence involved forward Afonso Moreira, who was through on goal and appeared to be clipped by Rennes' Mousa Al-Tamari before making contact with the advancing Samba. The referee judged there were two separate contacts, leading to the booking for the goalkeeper.

This yellow card was Samba's fifth of the campaign in Ligue 1, automatically triggering a one-match suspension. Rennes, believing the decision was harsh and that the primary foul was committed by Al-Tamari, filed a formal request for the card to be reviewed and rescinded. Their argument was that the suspension should have fallen to the Jordanian winger instead.

However, the disciplinary commission sided with the on-field official's assessment. By confirming the yellow card, they have enforced the standard suspension rules. Consequently, Samba will miss the trip to the Stade Vélodrome on May 17th for the 34th and final matchday of the Championnat. This is a significant blow for Rennes as they prepare to face a strong Marseille side in their season finale.

Had the commission overturned the decision, the suspension would likely have been transferred to Mousa Al-Tamari, who was also on the brink of a ban with four yellow cards to his name. Instead, the ruling leaves Rennes without their first-choice goalkeeper for a key match.

In Samba's absence, the responsibility between the posts will fall to the club's backup goalkeeper, Mathys Silistrie. The young shot-stopper is now in line to make a crucial appearance as Rennes look to end their season on a positive note against Marseille. The team will need to adapt quickly to this enforced change in their defensive lineup.

The decision closes the book on the incident, allowing both the club and the player to focus on the upcoming challenge. For Samba, it is a frustrating end to the domestic season, while for Rennes, it presents an unexpected tactical hurdle for their final outing.
