After Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Chelsea, Arne Slot admits he can't win back Anfield fans this season but expects summer window to turn tides.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has acknowledged that he cannot win back the support of disgruntled fans for the remainder of this season, following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield that drew loud boos from the home crowd. However, the Dutchman expressed strong confidence that a productive summer transfer window will restore trust and reshape the team's fortunes next term.

The match saw Liverpool take an early lead through Ryan Gravenberch's sixth-minute strike, but Chelsea, despite an out-of-form run, battled back to equalize via Enzo Fernandez. The Reds' attacking output was meager, posting an expected goals (xG) of just 0.51 — their lowest in a Premier League home game since March 2021. The result also marked Liverpool's ninth dropped points from winning positions at Anfield this season, the highest tally since 2015-16.

Slot, speaking after the match, was candid about the current disconnect with supporters. "Not this season. This season, they will have their opinion, and they will not change," he said. "But if we can have the summer that we are planning to have, then I'm 100 per cent convinced that we will be a different team next season." He highlighted shortcomings in squad fitness and depth as key issues to address.

The manager also addressed the controversial substitution of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who was taken off after providing an assist and was met with boos from the crowd. Slot clarified that the youngster suffered a muscle cramp and could not continue. "He had a cramp perhaps three minutes before that, and then I had contact with him, and he said that it wasn't an option [to continue]," Slot explained, noting that Ngumoha is not yet at the level to play effectively at reduced capacity.

Liverpool's struggles come despite a record £446.5 million spending spree last summer, which raised expectations after winning the league in Slot's debut season. The frustration has led some fans to question Slot's position, but the manager remains focused on the long-term rebuild. He emphasized that the issues are clear and that the club is actively working to address them in the upcoming transfer window.

Slot concluded with a message of optimism: "Sometimes you know what you have to do, but it's not always possible to get exactly what you want. But for us, it's really clear what we are lacking this season. We are trying." The next few months will be critical for Liverpool as they aim to reverse their fortunes and rekindle the Anfield faithful's support.
