The accident occurred on Thursday, May 7th, in the Acácias neighborhood. The specific location was the crossing of Alameda das Américas and Alameda Quita Guimarães. The released footage, which has been paused at the moment of impact, shows the cyclist being struck by the vehicle and thrown to the ground.
According to a report from the Military Police, the driver of the car provided an account of the events. He stated he was traveling along Alameda Quita Guimarães heading towards the city center. Upon reaching the intersection, the driver claimed the cyclist failed to stop at a mandatory stop sign, entering the roadway directly in his path.
The driver further asserted that he applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unable to stop in time. The impact resulted in the cyclist being thrown from his bicycle.
The victim, identified as a 16-year-old boy, received immediate medical attention at the scene. A team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) responded to the call and provided initial treatment before transporting him to the Hospital Universitário for further evaluation and care.
A medical assessment from the Samu team revealed the teenager sustained several injuries in the crash. He was treated for abrasions on his hand and a cut on his ear. He also reported experiencing pain in one of his toes. The injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
