Evgeny Biryukov, the sports director of Metallurg, has shared his thoughts on the performance of forward Vladimir Tkachyov this season. The 30-year-old forward recorded 81 points (15 goals, 66 assists) in 81 combined regular-season and playoff games.
In an interview, Biryukov was asked whether Tkachyov lived up to the expectations placed on him. 'Absolutely,' he responded. 'You saw how he played. He scored a lot of points and contributed significantly to the team. He created numerous scoring chances that we unfortunately failed to convert. I believe he can perform even better. He is a versatile player with the potential to develop further and become more mature.'
Regarding Tkachyov's performance in the playoffs, where Metallurg fell in the semifinals, Biryukov did not single out the forward. 'If we lost in the semifinals, it's not just Vladimir who underperformed but also the other players. Our team gets analyzed, and people see who creates chances and drives the game. It's often said that new names emerge in the playoffs. We wanted more from everyone because the outcome was disappointing. However, every player has reserves and potential to improve.'
Tkachyov's regular-season production was impressive, as he averaged exactly a point per game. His 66 assists highlighted his playmaking ability, making him a key offensive driver for Metallurg. The team's early playoff exit, however, overshadowed his individual achievements.
Biryukov's comments suggest that the organization still has faith in Tkachyov's abilities and expects him to elevate his game in future campaigns. With his combination of skill and experience, Tkachyov remains a central figure in Metallurg's plans.
