The victim was identified as Eryvelton Gomes, a 34-year-old hairdresser from the city of Várzea Grande. According to the available information, Gomes had a known allergy to shrimp but believed that eating crab would be safe for him.
Shortly after consuming the seafood, Gomes fell ill. He was quickly transported to a UPA (Unidade de Pronto Atendimento), a local emergency care unit. Medical teams at the facility worked to resuscitate him for approximately 40 minutes, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
