Two Arrested for Animal Cruelty in Capivari, SP: Pitbulls and Horse RescuedIn a significant animal welfare operation in Capivari, São Paulo, two individuals were arrested on Thursday, March 7th, for crimes of animal cruelty. The arrests were made following reports of neglect and mistreatment in the Santa Tereza D'Ávila neighborhood.
The first case involved a 30-year-old woman who was detained after police responded to complaints of abandonment. At the scene, officers discovered a dog in a critical state, showing signs of severe malnutrition and difficulty walking. A horse was also found without access to water or shelter, suffering from malnutrition and parasites.
In a separate incident on the same day, a 23-year-old man was arrested. Authorities found two pitbull dogs living in a filthy environment filled with accumulated garbage and feces. The animals were extremely thin and lacked necessary care.
The coordinated action was carried out by teams from the Special Investigation Group (SIG), the Women's Police Station (DDM), and the Children and Adolescents Police Station (DPM) of Capivari, with support from the Municipal Civil Guard and the Zoonosis Control Center.
A veterinarian issued official reports confirming the mistreatment in both cases. All rescued animals were taken in by the Zoonosis team to receive proper medical attention and care.
The two suspects remain in custody, at the disposal of the Justice system, awaiting further legal proceedings. This case highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat animal cruelty and enforce welfare laws in the region.
