Vereador Bruno Rios (PL) found a suspected listening device in his office air conditioner. Police are now investigating the discovery in Várzea Grande.

A routine check of decorations in a city council office led to a startling discovery in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso. Vereador Bruno Rios of the PL party reported finding what he believes to be a clandestine listening device hidden inside the air conditioning unit of his official chamber.

The incident came to light on Thursday, May 7th, when the vereador and an aide were removing state and city flags from a duct cover on the air conditioner. Upon disturbing the structure, they encountered an unfamiliar piece of equipment. The object was described as being wrapped in black electrical tape with a small microphone attached to one end.

Acting swiftly, Rios removed the device from the premises and proceeded directly to the Civil Police to file an official report. The following day, Friday, May 8th, authorities conducted a formal inspection and forensic examination of the vereador's office to gather further evidence.

The discovery has raised serious concerns about privacy and potential espionage within the local legislative body. The Câmara Municipal of Várzea Grande is now at the center of an active police investigation as officials work to determine the origin and purpose of the equipment.

According to the initial police report, the device's characteristics suggest it could have been used for audio surveillance. The investigation aims to uncover who installed the device, when it was placed there, and what information, if any, it may have captured.

This event underscores the vulnerabilities that can exist even within secured government facilities. The case is being handled by the Civil Police of Mato Grosso, who are tasked with piecing together the circumstances surrounding this alleged breach of security.
