The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has ordered the immediate suspension and recall of numerous products from the brand Ypê. The decision, which impacts items like detergents, laundry soaps, and disinfectants, has led to their removal from supermarket shelves across the Vale do Paraíba region in São Paulo state.

The regulatory action stems from a factory inspection conducted in April at Ypê's facility in Amparo, interior São Paulo. This inspection was prompted by a history of microbiological contamination issues recorded at the company in November of the previous year. The specific bacterium identified is commonly found in the environment, soil, and even on the skin of healthy individuals.

According to health experts, this bacterium rarely causes infections in people with robust immune systems. However, it can pose a significant health risk to individuals who are immunosuppressed or have compromised immune function. Anvisa's recommendation is for consumers to immediately stop using any of the affected products.

The recall is specific to product batches whose lot numbers end with the digit '1'. Consumers can find this lot number printed on the product packaging, typically near the manufacturing and expiration date information. Those who have these items at home are advised to contact Ypê's Consumer Service (SAC) for instructions on the return and reimbursement process.

The news has caused concern among local shoppers. In São José dos Campos, customers reported switching to alternative brands out of caution. One supermarket in the city's North Zone was observed removing Ypê detergents from its aisles, with staff reorganizing the space to feature products from other manufacturers.

Consumer reactions have been swift. Carlos Alacon, a civil engineer, stated his family decided to discard all Ypê products they had at home. "My daughter-in-law bought Ypê, she threw everything away. You have to check the lot. It's fear," he said. Similarly, saleswoman Cilene de Paula chose not to purchase the brand after learning of the suspension, citing fear as her reason for changing brands.

Ypê has publicly denied that its recalled products present a risk and has expressed confidence in reversing Anvisa's decision "in the shortest possible time." The agency advises anyone who has already used a product from the affected lots to be vigilant for any potential adverse reactions or symptoms.
