A Ueap project received a viability certificate for transforming açaí seeds into biogas using a biodigestor, with plans to expand to interior municipalities

Amapá University Project Converts Açaí Seeds to Biogas: Certified ViableA pioneering project developed by researchers from the Universidade do Estado do Amapá (Ueap) has achieved a significant milestone by receiving a technical and economic viability certificate. The initiative focuses on transforming organic waste, specifically açaí seeds, into biogas.

The core of the project utilizes a biodigestor to process the organic waste. This technology produces biogas, which can then be purified into biomethane. The resulting biomethane is a viable alternative to replace conventional cooking gas (GLP), offering a sustainable energy source derived from a common regional byproduct.

Looking ahead, the research team has outlined plans to expand the application of this technology to interior municipalities within the state. Furthermore, they intend to offer technical courses starting in 2026, aiming to disseminate the knowledge and practical skills needed for implementing similar biodigestor systems.

This development represents a promising intersection of waste management and renewable energy production, leveraging local resources to create a sustainable solution for the region.
