Brazil's health agency Anvisa has ordered the immediate recall of numerous Ypê cleaning products due to potential microbiological contamination. Consumers should check lot numbers ending in '1' and contact the company's customer service.

In a major regulatory move, Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has mandated the immediate suspension and recall of a wide range of household cleaning products from the popular brand Ypê. The action, announced on Thursday, stems from identified risks of microbiological contamination linked to specific production batches.

The core of the issue lies in the lot numbering system. According to Anvisa, all affected products belong to batches where the final digit of the lot code is the number '1'. This critical identifier can typically be found printed on the product's packaging, often located beneath the label, on the base, or near the cap. The lot number is usually preceded by the words 'Lote:' or 'L:' and is accompanied by manufacturing and expiration dates.

The scope of the recall is extensive, covering a significant portion of Ypê's portfolio. Affected items include various formulations of their dishwashing liquids, such as the Lava-louças com Enzimas Ativas, Ypê Clear Care, and Ypê Green lines. The laundry detergent segment is also heavily impacted, with products like the Tixan Ypê Combate Mau Odor, Tixan Ypê Antibac, and Ypê Power Act liquid detergents being pulled from shelves. Furthermore, several disinfectant products, including Desinfetante Bak Ypê and Desinfetante Pinho Ypê, are part of the recall.

The regulatory decision, formalized in Resolution 1.834/2026, followed a factory inspection that uncovered 'relevant non-compliances in critical stages of the production process.' Anvisa stated that failures in the quality assurance, production, and control systems compromised Good Manufacturing Practices, creating the potential for microbial contamination. The agency's directive is clear: consumers who possess products from these specified lots must discontinue use immediately.

Ypê has responded with strong opposition to the agency's ruling. In an official statement, the company expressed 'indignation with the decision,' labeling it 'arbitrary and disproportionate.' Ypê announced its intention to appeal the suspension, asserting that it holds reports from independent analyses proving its products are 'totally safe and adequate for consumption.'

For consumers holding potentially affected products, the recommended course of action is to contact Ypê's Consumer Service (SAC) directly. The company's customer service channels are the primary source for information regarding the specific procedures for product return and recall. This step is crucial for ensuring consumer safety and facilitating the orderly removal of the items from households.

The incident highlights the critical role of post-market surveillance and the potential scale of impact when quality control lapses occur in high-volume consumer goods manufacturing. The recall affects numerous SKUs across multiple product categories, underscoring the interconnected nature of modern production lines and the importance of stringent batch-level traceability.
