Beth Mead leaves Arsenal after nine trophy-laden years. She ends with 265 appearances, 86 goals, and titles including WSL and Champions League.

Beth Mead will leave Arsenal this summer after nine years at the club, bringing an end to one of the most decorated stints in women's football. The England forward, 31, departs as a free agent following the expiration of her contract, having made 265 appearances and scored 86 goals since joining from Sunderland in 2017.

Mead's trophy haul at Arsenal includes the Women's Super League title, three League Cups, the Champions League, and the Champions Cup. Her most memorable contribution came in last May's Champions League final, where her clever pass set up Stina Blackstenius's winner against Barcelona in Lisbon, securing Arsenal's second European crown.

The forward's Arsenal career began in 2011 when she joined from Sunderland's youth setup, but she truly blossomed after returning to the club in 2017. She quickly became a fan favorite, known for her tireless work rate and clinical finishing. Her 23 goals in 23 games during her first season in the FA Women's Premier League earned her the golden boot at age 20, the youngest winner in WSL history.

Mead's international exploits also define her legacy. She was the player of the tournament and golden boot winner at Euro 2022, where England lifted their first major trophy. That year, she was named BBC Women's Footballer of the Year and BBC Sports Personality of the Year. However, an anterior cruciate ligament rupture four months later sidelined her for the 2023 World Cup. She returned to full fitness and played a key role in England's successful defense of the European title in Switzerland last summer.

Arsenal's director of women's football, Clare Wheatley, hailed Mead as a legend: "Beth is such a special person and will always be welcome at Arsenal. She goes down in history as one of our best forwards." Mead's departure marks the end of an era, but the club also confirmed that defender Laia Codina and midfielder Victoria Pelova will leave this summer. Codina, a Spanish center-back, made 58 appearances and scored four goals since joining in 2023. Pelova, a Netherlands international, managed 87 appearances after arriving from Ajax in January 2023, but an ACL injury in summer 2024 limited her to just five WSL starts this season.

The departures signal a rebuild for Arsenal, who will need to replace Mead's creativity and goals. The club has already begun planning for life without their talisman, with several targets linked to the club. Mead's next move remains uncertain, but her availability on a free transfer will attract interest from top European clubs.

Mead's legacy at Arsenal is secure. She leaves as one of the most successful players in the club's history, having helped transform the women's team into a European powerhouse. Her journey from Whitby to Arsenal's Hall of Fame is a testament to her resilience and talent.

As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on where Mead lands. For now, Arsenal fans can only thank her for the memories. Based on reporting from The Guardian.
