Justice Flávio Dino requests more time, halting Supreme Court judgment on 2012 oil royalty law that has been suspended since 2013.

The Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) has suspended its judgment on the rules governing the distribution of oil production royalties between states and municipalities. The suspension came after Justice Flávio Dino requested more time for analysis, a procedural move known as 'pedir vista.'

The judgment, which began on Wednesday, was set to continue on Thursday. However, it was halted shortly after the case's rapporteur, Justice Cármen Lúcia, presented her vote. She voted to invalidate sections of the 2012 law that altered the distribution of oil royalties, a law that has been under a preliminary injunction since 2013.

The case concerns six actions that address how revenues from oil production are shared among Brazil's states and municipalities. The core issue revolves around a law passed by Congress in 2012, which changed the existing distribution framework. This law has been effectively frozen by a judicial order for over a decade.

The request for additional time by Justice Dino means the full court will not reach a decision on this matter in the current session. The future of the oil royalty distribution rules remains pending, awaiting further deliberation by the STF justices.
