A routine police patrol in Hortolândia, São Paulo, led to a significant weapons seizure and an arrest on Friday, May 8th. Military Police officers, acting on suspicion, stopped two men in a vehicle in the Jardim Santa Clara do Lago neighborhood.
According to the police report, the suspects exited the vehicle and were apprehended approximately 200 meters away. During the encounter, one of the men reportedly destroyed his own mobile phone, an act that heightened the officers' suspicions.
The investigation then shifted to the residence where the vehicle had been parked. Although the resident initially denied the officers entry, the man's grandmother granted permission for a search of the property.
Inside the home, police discovered and seized a replica assault rifle, a 9mm caliber pistol, and two ballistic vests. The collection of items, particularly the body armor, pointed to potential criminal intent beyond simple possession.
One of the men who had been stopped by police admitted to owning the seized materials. He was arrested in flagrante delicto, meaning caught in the act, and taken into custody.
The arrested individual and all confiscated items were subsequently presented at the Hortolândia Police Station (Plantão Policial) for formal processing and registration of the case. The incident underscores ongoing police efforts to combat illegal weapons in the region.
