PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov earned a 6.5 rating from Maxifoot for his crucial saves in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, helping his team advance to face Arsenal in the final.

Paris Saint-Germain's Russian goalkeeper Matvei Safonov delivered a performance of composure and critical interventions as his side secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final. The second-leg semi-final clash against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Munich ended in a 1-1 draw, a result that was enough to see the Parisians through.

The match, officiated by referee João Pedro Pinheiro, saw PSG defend with resilience. Safonov was called into action on several occasions, and according to the French publication Maxifoot, he successfully met the challenge. The review highlighted that despite a few unconventional moments, the Russian shot-stopper made the necessary saves when his team needed them most.

The only time Safonov was beaten was late in the game when England captain Harry Kane found the back of the net. That goal leveled the score on the night but could not prevent PSG from advancing on aggregate. Safonov's overall contribution was deemed vital to the team's defensive effort.

For his performance, Safonov received a solid match rating of 6.5 out of 10 from Maxifoot. This score placed him on par with two other key contributors for PSG: captain and defender Marquinhos, and winger Ousmane Dembélé, who scored the crucial away goal for the Parisian club.

The draw in Munich means PSG has now booked its ticket to the final of Europe's premier club competition. Their opponents in the showpiece event will be English side Arsenal, setting up a highly anticipated clash for the trophy.

The evaluation from Maxifoot underscores Safonov's importance in a high-pressure European knockout tie. His ability to make decisive stops provided the foundation upon which PSG built their successful semi-final campaign.
