Team profile
Pardubice
FK Pardubice represents a club born from resilience and reinvention. The modern entity was founded in 2008 after the bankruptcy of the original SK Pardubice, which dated back to 1910. While the name and heritage live on, the new club quickly rose from the regional lower leagues to establish itself in the Czech top flight. The team calls the eastern Bohemian city of Pardubice home, a historic town famous for the Great Pardubice Steeplechase horse race and its gingerbread tradition. Until recently, home matches were played at the compact Stadion pod Vinicí, which holds about 3,000 spectators and creates an intimate, atmospheric setting. However, ongoing renovations have forced a temporary relocation to Ďolíček in Prague—a unique challenge for the club and its travelling support. Pardubice has not yet won a major trophy; their most notable achievement remains promotion to the Czech First League in 2020 after finishing second in the second division. Since then, they have defied expectations by consolidating their place in the top flight, often punching above their weight against richer, more historic clubs. European competition has so far eluded them, but their steady growth hints at future ambitions. Few players have achieved legendary status at Pardubice, but the club prides itself on developing local talent and giving second chances to overlooked professionals. Midfielders like Tomáš Solil and attackers such as Dominik Janošek have been key figures in the club’s rise, while former captain Karel Hasil embodied the no-nonsense spirit that defines the team. The playing style under recent managers has been pragmatic and disciplined, focused on defensive solidity, quick transitions, and set-piece efficiency—the classic hallmarks of a side that competes with limited resources. Fan culture is modest but passionate. The core supporter group, the Pardubický kohouti (Pardubice Roosters), create a vibrant atmosphere with drums and chants despite the small stands. The club’s nickname “Koně” (Horses) reflects the city’s equestrian identity, and their red-and-white colours are a source of local pride. The primary rivalry is with neighbouring Hradec Králové, just 20 kilometres away, in what is known as the East Bohemian derby—a fiercely contested but friendly clash. Currently, FK Pardubice competes in the Czech First League as a mid-table side, fighting to maintain their status while building infrastructure for a more sustainable future. An interesting fact: the club is one of the few in the league to be owned by a private company, Marimex, which has provided stability. The temporary relocation to Prague has been a logistical trial, but the team’s survival instinct remains strong. Pardubice may lack the glamour of Prague giants, but its story of reinvention and stubborn ambition makes it a distinctive and respected part of Czech football.
