Juventus accelerate for Venezia's Issa Doumbia with a €25M proposal, facing Sporting CP's €20M bid. His UEFA homegrown status boosts his value significantly.

Juventus have intensified their pursuit of Venezia midfielder Issa Doumbia, lodging a concrete proposal worth €25 million as they look to beat a growing list of suitors to his signature. The Serie A giants see the 22-year-old as a perfect fit for Luciano Spalletti’s dynamic midfield, and with Sporting CP preparing a rival bid, the race is heating up.

Doumbia has emerged as one of the most exciting midfield talents in Italian football after playing a starring role in Venezia’s promotion to Serie A. His box-to-box qualities—combining physical power, tactical intelligence, and a knack for goals—produced eight goals and six assists in 37 Serie B appearances last season. These numbers have not gone unnoticed, with Juventus scouts marking him as a priority target.

Tuttosport reports that initial exploratory talks between Juventus and Venezia revealed a clear path: a €25 million fee would unlock the deal. Juventus did not balk at the figure, as the player’s profile aligns perfectly with their midfield rebuild. Spalletti wants a genuine contender to push the existing Locatelli-Thuram partnership, and Doumbia’s ability to carry the ball forward and break lines makes him an ideal candidate.

Beyond his on-field attributes, Doumbia holds significant strategic value for Juventus in terms of UEFA squad regulations. Having developed in Italy between the ages of 15 and 21, he qualifies as a ‘Federation trained’ player for European competition lists. With the club set to return to the Champions League—and the resulting €80 million windfall—squad composition rules become critical. Adding Doumbia would ease registration headaches and free up spots for other high-profile signings.

However, Juventus now face stiff competition from Portugal. Sporting CP have entered the fray with a firm offer of €20 million and are scheduled to meet Venezia officials in the coming hours to push for a quick agreement. The Lisbon club is confident that their immediate cash offer could tempt the newly promoted side, who value certainty ahead of their Serie A campaign.

The threat from Sporting has forced Juventus to accelerate their plans. According to Tuttosport, the Bianconeri will hold a last-minute meeting with Doumbia’s representatives in an attempt to appeal to his ambition by selling the Spalletti project. They are willing to guarantee a competitive package and a central role in a top European side, hoping to convince the midfielder to delay any decision and wait for Juventus to formalize their bid once their own season concludes—likely with Champions League qualification secured.

Simultaneously, Juventus intend to approach Venezia directly with promises of a financial package that will be closer to the €25 million demand, though they prefer to finalize terms after the campaign ends. The risk, of course, is that Sporting’s immediacy could trump Juve’s strategic patience. If Doumbia opts for Portugal, the Turin club would have only themselves to blame.

Doumbia is aware of the growing interest from across Europe, with Turkish side Besiktas also monitoring the situation closely. But the chance to remain in Italy and compete for trophies with a historic club like Juventus is a persuasive lure. Still, Sporting’s track record of developing young talent—and providing a springboard to even bigger moves—cannot be dismissed.

In the event that the Doumbia deal collapses, Juventus have alternatives. Davide Frattesi remains on their radar, though Internazionale’s stance is firm: €30 million or a swap involving Andrea Cambiaso. Juventus have already indicated that a straight player exchange is not currently on the table, making the economics more complicated than the Doumbia operation.

A third name under consideration is Angelo Stiller of VfB Stuttgart, a midfielder with outstanding technical qualities. However, the German club plans to remove his release clause by paying a €2 million penalty, which would effectively set his asking price at around €50 million—the same figure they demanded from Real Madrid last summer. That price point makes Stiller a less immediate priority unless other moves fail.

For now, all eyes are on Doumbia. Juventus must move decisively to outmaneuver Sporting and secure a player who represents both a tactical upgrade and a smart squad-building decision. The coming days could define the early shape of their summer market.
